Sacramento Fifth for foreclosure rates

One out of every 55 homes in the Sacramento metropolitan area received a foreclosure filing during the first three months of the year, ranging from a notice of default to a full repossession. Sacramento had the fifth highest rate among the top 100 metropolitan areas in the United States.

Almost 14,000 foreclosure filings were recorded during the first quarter. This represented a 14 percent increase over the previous quarter and more than doubled the amount during the same period last year.

California had the second highest foreclosure rate of all states, Nevada was in first place.  The Las Vegas real estate market has been hard hit after a decade of soaring real estate prices.

Sacramento Foreclosures Drop Slightly

Foreclosure filing in Greater Sacramento fell in July from June.

There were 4,009 foreclosure filings in the Sacramento metropolitan area in July. That number dropped slightly from 4,127 filings in June. The dip occurred mostly in Sacramento County, which saw 3,066 filings in July compared to 3,455 filings in June. Placer County had 698 filings, an increase from 512 in June. El Dorado County foreclosure filings rose to 245 in July, from 160 the month before.

Sacramento Foreclosures Double

The Sacramento metro area (Sacramento, PLacer, El Dorado and Yolo counties) came in at number five for foreclosure rates in a survey of the United States’ top 100 metropolitan areas for the first six months of 2007.

Sacramento joined four other California cities in the top ten metro areas in RealtyTrac’s foreclosure activity report.

Sacramento saw a 241 percent increase in filings compared to the first half of 2006. The foreclosure rate also went up 162 percent from the second half of 2006.

More than 20,000 foreclosure filings were reported  in the Sacramento area.

Stockton was number one for foreclosures in the nation, with one filing for every 27 homes.
